The Begging
So, I decided I needed to make more money. Why? Times are hard and I want more money to buy things I want and save for things I need. I am 25 now and I think I’ve started to look more than just my age. I blame getting up and going to work 5 days a week but never mind that for now.
It really started to think about finding out ways of making more money back in March 2009. Not sure why then, but something obviously got to me and started the fire.
How and when it started
Anyways, I started coming up with ideas to make a bit of extra money. I thought about all sorts of ideas and I still do because I believe that it’s good to keep trying to find new ways to be successful and maybe find something new that interests me. I tried online surveys that want you to pay, reading all these ‘Get rich quick’ schemes. I even created a comic (My girlfriend laughed at it but maybe out of pity?!?) which I may continue but it does take a lot of time. I have been selling on eBay since 2001 and that is a great way to get some cash in. So, after many brainstorms and making notes on my phone whilst sat in the pub most evenings I came up with a website where I would sell things that I normally put on eBay.
Naming my baby
So, I was really determined to do something now. I had an idea I just needed to execute it.
First, I needed a domain name for the site. I like to think I have a good knowledge of toys from the 80’s and 90’s and I also own nearly every toy from these decades too, so I was going to base the site just on toys. I tried names like toy chest, around the world toys, 80’s toys - the list goes on and on. Anyway, I started looking round the house and I noticed that we have a lot of stuff to sell– not just toys.
I went off and started to think of names that could be used that would cover more than just toys. I started to think of things like, markets, car boot sales, flea markets. Then I found a name and I loved it. Then it turns out that some b*stard had already take it! I won’t put the name down because I don’t wish to give them free publicity. Sorry, minor rant over. So, I then came up with http://www.fleamarketfrenzy.com/. The name is a bit longer than I wanted but it was my name and I registered it. Sounds a bit sad but I was quite pleased to have registered my own domain name. It made me feel like I was a bit closer to having my own website up and running - of course it took a couple of months for the website to get done from this time but we will get to that.
Making my baby
Building the website seemed quite difficult and hard task. I have limited knowledge on building websites. I had some computer kid from school come round my house (who I don’t believe has left his home since then. Well what’s there really to see outside?) and build one for me when I was 14 but that was about it.
I read a few articles on the internet trying to find good /easy ways to start building a website. It helped a bit but I was still not convinced I could make a good website with the limited knowledge I had. So, to cut this story short I found a site called http://www.350.com/. You have to pay for most of the features on the site but I found it worthwhile and not that expensive. The best thing was the site is so easy to use. You can get away without any technical knowledge and just drop and drag bits here and there to create your site.
June 14th 2009 www.fleamarketfrenzy.com is born!
Okay, it was finished a couple of weeks before then but I went to Poland so I thought I would wait until I was back before it officially opened.
On June 15th 2009 I sent my mates the link to the site so they could have a look and hopefully let a few people who they work with know that it was up and running.
How it’s going and advertising my site
So far we haven’t sold anything. However, I haven’t really advertised it yet. Posted a couple of messages on forums and I have a few auctions on eBay with the web address showing but that’s about it. Oh an this blog of course.
Please note, if you have a way of advertising my site, cheap or even better free please email me at: fleamarketfrenzy@yahoo.co.uk
Thank you!
